2 LYNWOOD BUTNER NOTABLE RETIREMENTS This past fall at a celebratory event, Lynwood remarked ‘this is my fifth and final retirement!” He thanked Steve Baril and Dylan Bishop as well as KVCF for hosting and giving him a chance to thank many of those who made his 50 plus years so amazing. “After a virtual year, it gave me a chance to thank everyone for their friendship and support.” This was his 45th year of working with the General Assembly, which was the greatest honor of his life. He recognized his biggest supporter Beth, and sons Jonathan and Clay for their support and patience during a very busy career! “Thanks to all! Loved every day and now off to new adventures!” Five retirements,Who can beat that?We called Lynwood, and here’s the list: 1 – VDOT: 30 years state traffic engineer 2 – DMV: Assistant and then Deputy Commissioner 3 – Peter Easter Associates 4 – Butner Consulting 5 – KDCF What a journey. His work with the General Assembly goes back to 1977 when he was called up to explain the Federal Bridge Formula (think ‘truck’ weight) to Senator Wiley and later to Delegate Dickerson. This began a lifetime friendship with Earl Dickenson. Marty Hall said, “Lynwood was always very helpful with transportation issues in SWVA and was just a wonderful person and friend.” Steve Baril commented, “Linwood is old school. The tools of his trade are a handshake and a hug. His word is his bond. He never met a person he didn’t like, and I’m unaware of anyone who did not like Lynwood. As they say, they don’t make ‘em like that anymore! We wish Lynwood the best with his well deserved retirement, but he will be sorely missed at KVCF Solutions.”
3 Virginia Credit Union League President Richard D. “Rick” Pillow retired following a 40-plus-year career within the credit union system. “Anyone who has worked with Rick knows his passion for credit unions,” said Patsy Stuard, CEO of Fort Lee Federal Credit Union and chairman of the Virginia Credit Union League Board of Directors. “His leadership and vision helped us position the League as the voice, champion, and premier resource for Virginia’s credit unions. Rick’s guidance, his knowledge of the system, and his enthusiasm will be missed, but he leaves a legacy of contribution and accomplishment that helped forge the League into the strong, stable, missionfocused organization it is today.” Pillow’s career in credit unions began in 1978 when he was hired by the League to serve as a consultant to credit unions. For the next two decades, he would serve in various positions with the League, its corporate credit union, and with Martinsville DuPont Employees Credit Union (nowValleyStar Credit Union) (1982-1986). In 1997, he was promoted to Executive Vice President of the League and succeeded Eugene H. Farley Jr. as League President on Jan. 1, 2000. His long, distinguished career as League President saw the establishment of the Credit Union House of Virginia in downtown Richmond as a lobbying and operations hub; the evolution of the League’s advocacy infrastructure to better facilitate credit unions’ grassroots efforts, political fundraising and regulatory advocacy; the launch of a host of new products and services within the League and its service corporation; formation of the League’s charitable foundation; and recently, the creation of TRGroup, a multi-League organization offering products, services and professional development opportunities to more than 700 credit unions. “I’ve been honored to serveVirginia’s credit union system in one capacity or another for 42 years come next June,” said Pillow. “What a privilege it’s been to have known and to have worked with so many wonderful people over those four decades, and I’m grateful and humbled by the difference they made in my life on both a personal and professional level.” RICK PILLOW
